- Cable is unspooled or bunched at one side of the drum. A worn drum groove lets the cable slip and overlap instead of laying in clean wraps. Once it bunches, the effective cable length changes and the door binds.
- Rust dust or broken wire strands visible near the bottom bracket. Spring’s humidity, especially in garages without climate control, corrodes cables from the inside out. The cable looks fine until it doesn’t.
